When I was back in the midlands in September it seemed that anywhere I went at Alegent there was construction going on. Alegent Health-Tanzania happens to be participating in this trend as we are currently doing major construction of a wing for orthopedic patients.Of course it is not quite the same in that we are working with existing walls made of stone and clay, we are building small wards versus private rooms and the first ever space dedicated to physical therapy. Other differences include most work being done manually, having to go to various shops in the city to buy the building materials and transporting these items back to the hospital. From cement to pipes to wire - all in the hospital vehicles! On the other hand, we will have a whole new wing for around $25,000.....try doing that in Omaha!!

How's Machame doing?
Hello and Happy New Year!
I spent some time in Machame hospital in the fall of 2006 and also met you there. Thanks for all the help! Now I found your blog and would love to hear some news from the hospital, village and people in general. I would appreciate it if you had the chance to email me, for example.
Best Wishes,
Ida (Nursing student from Finland)
